One of our favorite (and most popular) sewing books this past year has been  Fabric-by-Fabric One Yard Wonders.  In fact, chances are good that you actually own it:)

We have the trunk show in our store right now.  Lots of fun projects are here for the viewing.  You can see in person some of the cool pieces before you make them.

The fleece booties…how many of you have fleece around that you purchased especially for these?  I know a few…

Pajama Booties

I am thinking the corduroy skirt might just not make it back into the trunk show.  Which by the way winds its way to our friends at Sewtropolis next.

Help Wanted – Part Time

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

We have filled our part time positions!  Thanks to all who were interested.

Have you ever wanted to work in a yarn or fabric shop?

Do you need a little extra money?

Do you want to buy yarn and fabric at a discount?

Your chance has arrived!

We are looking for a few part time sales associates to fill some evening and weekend hours at our new shop in Stillwater.   If you are into fiber arts and know something about yarn and fabric drop us a line. You do not have to be an expert, in fact even beginner yarn and fabric addicts are welcome to apply.  You don’t really even need retail experience, just a great attitude!

You aren’t looking for a part time job, but know someone who is?  Send this post their way!

Call to Artists

Call to Artists!
We are Darn Knit Anyway; a yarn and fabric shop coming in October to Main Street in Stillwater, Minnesota.  Our Goal is to provide an environment that makes artists and novices alike feel welcome, educated, equal and eager to come back!
In addition to being a source for unique textiles and natural, hand-dyed and locally spun yarns, we will have a boutique filled with items handmade by local artists.
Who we are looking for
Because we are going to be a boutique that only sells items made by local artists, you must currently reside in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Oh, and you need to be at least 18.
What we are looking for
Because we are a yarn and fabric shop, we are looking for items that relate to those materials.  So, if you make something with yarn or fabric or make something to do with creating things with yarn and fabric, we want to see it!  So…knit and crochet items, baby clothes and blankets, burp cloths and bags, fiber supplies like specialty needles and notions.  You get the picture, right?
How we want it
Because we have limited time before our October opening, we need to have all correspondence in email form.  There is no application form.  Please send us an email with the following information to artist@darnknitanyway.com.
1.  We need to know who you are, how to contact you and where you call home.
2.  We need to know what item or items you are submitting, what materials you are using and what your process is.
3.  We need to see what you’ve got up your sleeve.  So, please submit up to 5 digital images per item.

When we want it
Because we are opening in early October, we are moving fast!  Submissions are due Monday, September 7th.  If you are selected for review, you will be notified via phone to set up an artist meeting (to review your art and our contract) by Friday, September 11th.  All artist meetings will be Tuesday, September 15th through Saturday, September 19th.  If selected for consignment, items need to arrive at the shop ready to sell by Tuesday, September 29th.
What we really want you to know
Our mission, for the boutique at Darn Knit Anyway, is to be a place that showcases local artists.  We want you to tag your items with any contact information you see fit.  We want people to be able to find you directly and buy more from you!  We’ll be profiling our artists on our website with links to your website.  So, feel free to send us a great bio and website information, your etsy site and any other information you think makes you and your product really cool.  We are excited to see what unique items you have to show us!
