May FINISHED!
Friday, June 3rd, 2011May 23rd 2011 (my birthday)
Monday, May 23rd, 2011.
I love my birthday, like really, really love my birthday. I try not be annoying or anything, but I really like to celebrate it. I feel like my life gets better and better and I love to look back and celebrate the year that was and get excited about what is to come.
.
I usually plan a party for my birthday, usually it involves tailgating with my friends and family at a Saints game. Doesn’t get much better.
.
.
It is a different sort of year this year. We’re not tailgating this year. This year I get to celebrate at my yarn shop. There are few places in the world I would rather be. So, I get to be at the shop all day today, getting great well wishes from happy yarnie customers.
.
Not only that, but my dad brought my Nanny Jean to the shop today for a rare visit! What an amazing surprise. I’ll admit it…I was weepy!

So, I didn’t mean for this blog post to be all about my birthday:) I meant to update the May sweater…
.
.
Before you say it…I know I should “spit and splice” but I just can’t get myself to do it…I know there are a lot of ends to weave in.
.
.
I am 1/3 the way down the first sleeve. 1 week left to knit.
.
Maybe if I could stop knitting this lace shawl I would finish in time. I am going to put this one aside and finish the sweater. The lace class isn’t until mid june!

Off to eat some chocolate cake now…

Thursday, May 12th, 2011I have made some progress on the May Sweater of our 12 in 12.
.
.
I love the yarn, like the pattern too although I can’t for the life of me memorize the LSE and RSE detail.
.
I am a scattered knitter this month.
.
I am working on this fish hat from Knitty. I wish I had remembered this pattern before fishing opener weekend. Woulda made a fun class. Maybe we’ll add it to our Christmas in July class schedule (more details about that in the coming days)
.
.
I am knitting up the sample of the Springtime Bandit for our beginning lace class in June. It is a fast, fun lace pattern. If you have been afraid of lace and chart reading, this is the class for you.

Glad there are 31 days in May:)

Turns out I should have stopped at 2 sweaters in April
.
.
This is the Ruched Yoke Tee from Interweave Knits Spring 2011. I am knitting it in Blue Sky Alpaca Skinny Cotton, the same yarn it was designed for, my gauge is right…but for some crazy reason it is too big for me and I am knitting the appropriate size this time. Might frog? Might gift?
.
I have put April #3 on hold happily while I cast on for May.
.
.
Harvest Moon is the May sweater from our 12 in 12.
.
I am knitting it out of Blue Sky Alpacas Hand Dyed Worsted. The yarn is a bit fatter than the yarn the pattern calls for, so I am going down a needle size. I still am only 16 stitches over 4 inches (2 less than the called for gauge) I could get the right gauge by going down yet another needle size, but I don’t want the fabric too tight, so I am going to make the size 38 and hope to get about a 36? We’ll see what happens. That is the fun of hand knitting right?
.
.
So, this is a pretty cool collar construction. It is knit the short way…so, cast on 20 stitches and knit in garter, but the stitches at the edge of the collar are slipped and knit, which gives them a really neat and clean look. LOVE it. I am 3/4 of the way through the collar, the fabric feels a bit tight, but I am hoping that once I get to the stockinette part of the sweater it will loosen up.
